The pavilions at the heart of Turku Market Square in Finland were designed to transform the iconic urban space into a thriving year-round hub, fostering community engagement regardless of the weather.
YEAR: 2016 - 2023 LOCATION: FINLAND STATUS: COMPLETED
As part of a three-person team, I focused on standard constructions and key details to ensure the pavilions were both visually appealing and structurally sound for the local context. This included shaping the pavilion core and developing the distinctive lamellar wooden facade system, which adds warmth and texture to the structures. Extensive research was conducted to create a modular lamella system that enhances visual appeal while enabling efficient assembly and maintenance.

The design concept for the Turku Market Square pavilions is inspired by the trunk and canopy of the trees that have long lined the square's edge. This nod to nature encourages visitors to reconnect with the environment while enjoying the modern amenities of urban life.
